We have lost count of how many times we have been asked this question. Is there a age limit to practice or to even start training Muay Thai?
Like in any other sport, there are levels in which you can practice the beautiful Art of Muay Thai and not necessarily need to do any sparring, or put yourself in a situation in which you wouldn’t feel comfortable.
There is this big “taboo” and also is usually the second questions we receive: “are you guys a fighters only gym?”
Our mission upon opening SRG Thai Boxing Gym was not to focus on fighters, or have a huge stable of competitors in Australia, but yet to give the opportunity to the community to enjoy the benefits of what we do, and for the ones that excel during the process, to also give them an opportunity to compete and potentially become a professional fighter.
Right now, at this very moment, 95% of our students do not compete, never competed and do not want to ever fight. Also to add that we are now on a 60%-40% ration between Men and Women in the gym (another question we receive all the time, if we do have ladies training with us).
We have children training from the age of 4 and some adults that are in their 60’s and as happy as they could be.
One thing we always tell everyone, and that we would like to also tell you, that is reading this article thinking about starting your training regime. It only gets easier with time, the hardest times you will have coming to the gym will literally be until your get familiarized with the place, to know where everything is, where to park your car… the training itself, specially at the start of your journey, will be managed to the level of fitness you can endure. As much as you build your endurance from session to session, your instructor will push you accordingly.
Let us know if you have questions, if you need assistance in getting your training program in place as we are here to help. Hope to see you soon at SRG Thai Boxing Gym.
