Another great weekend of fights and there is more coming this following weekend.
Saturday March 3rd we went down to Melbourne to another WMC Jr Middle Weight Title Defense for our head coach Luis Soot Raaeng Geert at one of the best, if not the best, Muay Thai Promotion in Australia, Rebellion Muay Thai.
Like always, the event was amazing, the promoter Sy Nadji and all his crew looked after us really well and we couldn’t be more thankful to him. Thanks a lot guys, we really appreciate it.
We had one of our great friends fighting on the same night, Josh Timebomb Tonna, in which performed really well, showed everyone great skill but end up coming our shorts on the judges eyes on a very close match. Well done Josh, we can’t wait to see back in the ring showcasing your great techniques.
The the co-main event had Luis vs Alex Ilijoski, from 8 Blade Warriors Muay Thai, and it was also a great fight to watch. A very traditional Thai Style bout that we couldn’t really understand the result. One of the judges actually gave the fight to Alex, and that alone makes us wonder what fight was he watching. In the end, the score was a draw and Luis kept the belt. We are not too sure if they just didn’t want to give the Sydney boy a win or if they didn’t actually want to give the Melbourne a loss. We think the later but in the end it doesn’t matter as it was just another fight. Sometimes people wonder why Muay Thai is not much more of a popular sport, why Muay Thai is not in the Olympics and all. Have you imagine the Gold Medal match of the Olympic games ending up in a draw? Yep that’s Muay Thai for you so we can’t really expect much more.
You can watch Luis vs Alex by clicking HERE (amazing work by Timo and the Muay Ties team).
We have had several people, including people from other federations (not WMC) contacting us to let us know that there isn’t a way for being a draw on a title fight, but as we were the title holders we didn’t lose it we guess. And if the title was up for grabs, maybe it would remain vacant? We are not too sure to be honest, we are as confused as you may be and we can only hope for better scoring for the future of Australian Muay Thai.
Next Saturday the 10th of Mach we will have 2 of our boxers performing at Siam2Sydney, another high class Muay Thai Promotion of Australia but based in Sydney. We will have Conor and Huw representing our family and tickets are at the Gym’s reception. Come past and get yours as this show always sells out! Tickets are $60 General, $70 Mezzanine and $80 for Ring Side. Contact us on (02) 9667 2115 or on info@thaiboxingsydney.com to secure yours. Hope to see you all there! Soot Raaeng Geert!!
