You’ve been asking for another SRG internal sparring day and we finally have a date! On the 17th of June our sparring day is back and this time things will be quite different.
From our understanding, sparring days is the first step for anyone interested in representing the SRG fight team in an official fight and there’s no better way to be prepared than having the whole experience of pre-fight before stepping in the ring in a match that will not count to your record than in our upcoming event.
To be able to compete in Australia in any amateur or professional event, fighters need to register with Combat Sports Australia otherwise promoters are not allowed to match you for their event and this has been a headache for years for people doing their first fight, things unfortunately are always done at last minute and sometimes not on time to be eligible to compete. As Luis said many times, if you intend to compete, then hurry up and do your registration with CSA. For our sparring day, a registration with CSA will be requested as well and since all of you competing will be eligible to participate at the next Muay Thai Australia NSW Development Day, the participants with best performances (technique, Muay Thai style and fighting IQ) will be invited to represent the gym in July.
Below are the requirements to register as fighter in NSW.
- Service NSW account
- Full name and DOB exactly as it appears on the proof of identification documents that accompany your application
- A passport style photograph in JPG format
- A certificate of fitness, in the approved form, given by a medical practitioner not more than 28 days before the date on which the application is made. Note: The medical examination date recorded in the certificate must be in close proximity to the date the certificate was given (issued) by the medical practitioner.
- A current serological clearance certificate in the approved form.
- Certified copies of three (3) types of acceptable proof of identity documents.
- Select all required registration classes
- Pay the applicable registration class application fee
Are you wondering what’s different about this sparring day? See below the schedule for the events and all the details below.
WHAT: SRG Internal sparring day (MEMBERS ONLY – Being an active student in our sparring classes in mandatory to be able to be matched)
WHEN: 17/06/23
WEIGH IN: 17/06 at 11AM. You are not meant to cut weight for a sparring day, or a development day so don’t register on a weight division you won’t be able to effortless step on the scale and make weight. Unfortunately, last event we had way to many people heavier than they registered. If you are 500g over the registered weight, be ready to grab a skipping rope and sweat it out.
EVENT START: Doors will be open at 3pm for spectators and fighters. Fighters are meant to be at the gym at 3pm sharp. First fight will start at 4pm.
COST: Competitors $50 (paid at the reception before the 16th of June). Spectators $25 (paid at the door).
Lights will be off except for the ones in the ring and once your chosen walkout song play, it’s time to head to the ring with your cornerman. We will provide gloves, head gear and soft shin pads (same as the ones used in all official amateur tournaments. You are most welcome to use your own if you already have a Yokkao cotton shin pad). Fighters must bring their own mouth guard, cotton hand wraps and groin guard.
A photographer will be taking photos of the event and you are most welcome to have someone recording your bout as well. Medals will be awarded for the competitors and honestly, they are SUPER cool as you can see one of them displayed in our model’s chest.
If you had a previous sparring day bout and wish to participate, don’t think twice, register to be matched. We recommend all amateur fighters to jump in and get more ring time.
